More of the Same
Things around the house have been quiet. Stace's foot is healing nicely (100lb excited dog + rainslick steps + short leash = emergency room visit) and she is excited about getting to run again with her teams very soon.
Christmas is just around the corner and we are looking forward to visiting MO for the holiday. I think Stace set up a rental car yesterday, in fact. If you have not submitted any lists or gift suggestions already, please do so or else you're getting socks. Not even new socks. My socks. And you really don't want those.
So what are your thoughts on a possible auto bailout? Not that you care, but here are mine - and I'm sure it will be more of a rant that changes points along the way - I apologize.
I have mixed feelings. Of course the loss of that many jobs is horrific, however I cannot imagine throwing money at a (thankfully!) dead end. I've never agreed with the idea of Big Auto, as most of you who are aware of my distrust of old money families should have guessed. I've never believed that ignoring consumer requests, ignoring new technological research, and falling back on what was a good product almost a hundred years ago, is an acceptable business model. The public has demanded better vehicles for decades but we have not really been given anything. We've put men on the moon but the combustion engine has barely changed since its conception and some people, invariably high up in the food chain who are making huge money off it, says that that is okay. I cannot believe that better ideas have not been had and I absolutely believe that they were immediately bought up and shelved because the groundwork and support systems had already been laid for the combustion engine. It seems more advanced technology has gone into creating a more efficient factory line then a more energy efficient engine/vehicle.
I see this as possibly a (The?) revolution for American production. It is painfully evident that the move from a production based industry to a service based industry has cost this country a lot. There is very little "American" to buy any longer. What if The Big Three were no longer that? What if they were a single corporation, sharing technology, ideas, etc., and built more then just cars? And on an international scale, why is there still the need for fossil fuels? Honda's robotics division alone is incredible! You're trying to tell me that there is not an alternative to gasoline? I'm not buying it. I'm moving my conspiracy theory to a global scale now - too many people making bank off an old idea. I guess I just don't get why they don't make money off a newer, more planet friendly idea.
As messy as it is going to be, unfortunately it seems the only way to really fix our current problems is a very large shift in the basic design.
Of course who am I? What do I know?
